Shooting youth basketball for Fofalhonas. The look on a kid's face when they see a great photo of themselves playing is the whole point. Free for the players; sold to the world to fund the gear.

My wife is a basketball coach in Portugal. I am, officially, a basketball wife.

The photography started as a way to be useful at games. It became something I think about, invest in, and genuinely love.

Youth and amateur basketball is full of moments that scoreboards don’t capture — the celebration after a good play, the focus before a free throw, the bench erupting for a teammate. Those are the shots I’m chasing.

All photos are free for the players, always. These kids don’t have professional photographers at their games. When they see a photo of themselves playing — looking athletic, focused, mid-air — something shifts. They feel seen. They feel like athletes. Some use the photos for their socials. Some keep them.

I sell digital downloads to anyone else who wants them. So far they’ve made me about €40 — not exactly a business. It chips away at what is, frankly, a rather expensive hobby.

My wife went back to studying last year, so she currently has no teams and I haven’t been shooting. I’ll be back at it when the season returns.
