Tech Tinkering

Home Assistant is my actual hobby. NAS, automations, retro hardware, the occasional weekend tech project. I run things locally where I can and automate what I'd otherwise forget.

Home Assistant is the project that never ends, and that’s entirely by design.

I run a full local smart home setup — lights, heating, routines, automations. The rule is: if it can run locally, it does. I don’t want my lights to depend on someone’s cloud staying up.

The NAS runs everything that doesn’t live in the cloud by choice — backups, media, and a handful of services I’d rather self-host. I’ve been slowly moving things off third-party platforms where it makes sense.

Beyond Home Assistant, I am known for having quite random ideas, and now with Claude code, thinking quite a few of those are abstractable and shareable. Stay tuned to the blog, or subscribe to my newsletter! No trash, only posts in your inbox when posted. I have an RSS feed, if you prefer to pull ;)

If you’re tinkering with Home Assistant or building something local-first, feel free to reach out. Always happy to compare configs.
